Put Your Thoughts on Ice

Good Neighbors Aren’t a Dime a Dozen

November 28, 2008 By Hanna

I must be one of the most fortunate people in this world to have wonderful neighbors. They have been a real blessing to me and my family and I am truly thankful for them. They are peaceful, quiet, content, and mind their own business. They are also very pleasant to my children and lend a hand to me whenever I may need it. Sam, the husband, has his own moving business and on occasion he employees me to help him out with packing. Just this morning, we had a packing job in one of the upscale neighborhoods here in town. Ruth, his wife, is very intelligent and has been a great asset to my children’s education. She was a librarian and a school teacher.

They have a very small house just across the shell easement from my house. Ruth was telling me that when they bought that little house, there were two outlets in the whole house. How frustrating that must have been. They pulled all the wiring out which consisted of two wires which crisscrossed the house with a junction box in the middle. How that little wood framed house ever kept from burning down to the ground is a miracle. With some hard work, they managed to renovate that little home into a cute cottage.

Several years back, Sam had mentioned to me that he would love to buy the house and property next to him. Fortunately for Sam, the owner had died and the heir to the home needed to sell it. Sam snatched it up. The property is probably about the size of three lots but the house is small. When he bought the place, it was in need of some serious updating. Sam gutted the house and has been working on it for about the past year. Yesterday, I went to see Sam and had a quick tour of his project. What a beautiful little home it has turned into. They basically gutted the inside and started the home renovation project.

The kitchen is small but very cute. They have light wood cabinets with stainless steel accents and appliances. The counter top is not on yet. They were telling me that they are having a concrete countertop put in. I had never heard of such a thing but they showed me a book of how it was done. It looks very nice and I anxious to see the finished product.

They have put up new ceilings through out the house along with new drywall. They laid new eighteen inch ceramic tile throughout the house and the bathroom boasts of a dark grey and brown pebble tile shower. It’s absolutely beautiful and I can’t think of anyone else who deserves such a treasure as this. My best wishes are extended to them and their new home. They deserve it.
