X10 Noise Filters, would they block the noise of children?

by the mom on September 5, 2008

I was just looking at The Home Automation Store website.  I enjoy browsing this website and seeing all the neat ways to automate a home.  This morning I came across the XPF 20A Wired-In Noise Filter and the XPNRNoise Reducer.  The X10 Noise Filter and X10 Noise Reducer are filters to help with the noise of larger appliances and fluorescent bulbs such like.

These items got me to thinking.  Wouldn’t it be nice to have a noise reducer for other, non-appliance, noises in the house.  I’m thinking more along the lines of the noise that three boys can generate!  I have three sons ages four and under.  Now if they don’t make noise, then I have no idea what the definition of the word is.  There are plenty of days I would love to walk around with ear plugs in my ears.

Now I must say, as I’m writing this, it’s actually fairly quiet.  My four-year-old has gone off for his second day of preschool and the other two are sitting nicely upstairs.  I can hear the middle son talking and singing to the baby occasionally but otherwise it’s quite quiet.  Wow!

On a side note, my oldest was so excited to go to preschool this morning!  He came upstairs to kiss me good-bye at least twenty minutes before it was time to walk out the door with Daddy.  Then, he spent the last five minutes before they should leave standing at the door, bag on shoulder, hand on the door knob.  He was ready to go!

Anyway, back to what I was talking about, I think a noise reducer of some sort would be great in this house.  I wouldn’t want to get rid of noise all together, of course, just sort of tone it down to a dull roar.  When it does get totally quiet around here I know to get scared.  It usually means the boys are getting into something they shouldn’t.  The past has included Vaseline, baby powder, nail polish, water, soap and more.

Back at The Home Automation Store website, I see there is one more filter I didn’t mention earlier.  It’s the XPPF Plug In Filter. This too is to reduce the noise on electrical wires.  All of these items are for X10 home automation devices.  If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out The Home Automation Store and see all the fun things available to automate the appliances in your home.  It’s really pretty neat to learn about!
