X10 Appliance and Lamp Modules - where would they be used in my home?

So, I’m sitting here trying to figure out what kinds of appliances you would use X10 Remote Controls for.  These look like great tools to use, I’m just trying to figure out what appliances would need them.  The idea is that you plug the appliance into an X10 Appliance Module and then use a remote such as the HR12A PalmPad Remote Control to control the appliance from across the room or elsewhere in the house.

Okay, let’s see, the TV already has a remote as does the Stereo, Wii and VCR/DVD player.  That pretty well takes care of what is in the living room.

What is there in the kitchen as far as appliances?  Of course the fridge but I think we’d better not mess with that!  The blender, I guess I could use the remote to switch that one when I wanted to mix up milkshakes so it’s ready right as the commercials come on.  I guess it wouldn’t work on the toaster because I’d still have to push the bread down.  We just don’t have a whole lot of appliances in the kitchen.

The bathroom.  Hey!  Maybe I could plug the iron into a module so I can use the remote to get it heated up while I’m still in bed in the morning.  Or, the space heater, maybe I could use a remote to turn the heater on in the bathroom before I inch out of bed on cold winter mornings.  That would be great!  A space heater could be a wonderful idea in the bedroom as well on cold mornings and evenings.

To be quite truthful, in each of these rooms I thought the most helpful thing would be to have lamps hooked up to a remote.  With remote control lamps I could turn a light on upstairs before turning them all off downstairs or I could turn a lamp on before getting out of bed and tripping on the way to the light switch   When it comes to lamps, there are separate modules just for those.  The X10 lamp modules allow a person to control lights and even dim and brighten lamps that do not normally have that function.

I think the lamp modules are what I would be more likely to invest in for our home.  I can foresee so many uses for those.  Having a baby who wakes me up multiple times a night probably adds to why I think they would be good for my home!  All of these X10 items are available through The Home Automation Store website.  It’s a really neat site to check out and see what fun items can be added to your home.
